What types of binding do you offer for books?

In our printing press we have several types of professional binding to adapt to any editorial project.
We work with hot-melt binding, stapled, wire-o and hardcover (only by special order).
Below we explain the characteristics, advantages, minimums and maximums of each system.

1. Hot-Melt binding (thermal glue)

It is the most common type of binding for books and the one we use for most projects.

🔖 PUR binding: the premium standard on color jobs

Every book, magazine and catalog we print on coated (couché) paper — that is, full-color jobs — is bound with PUR (polyurethane reactive) adhesive instead of traditional EVA hot-melt. It is the same standard premium publishers use for their color books, and at Dushi it comes at no extra cost.

Advantages of PUR over traditional hot-melt

• Up to 50% stronger bond.
• Bonds perfectly to coated stock: conventional (EVA) glues fail exactly on this kind of paper; with PUR, pages never come loose.
• Lays flatter for easier reading and browsing.
• Cleaner, more elegant spine: the adhesive layer is thinner.
• More durable against heat, cold and the passage of time.
• Ideal for photography books, product catalogs and color magazines that get heavy use.

When does it apply? PUR binding applies only to jobs printed on coated (couché) paper. Bond paper interiors (black & white) are still bound with traditional hot-melt, which remains the industry standard for that kind of paper.

Stapled binding (saddle stitch)

We use central metal staples to join the folded sheets.

3. Wire-O binding (metal spiral)

Metal ring system ideal for books that require full opening.

• Agendas
• Recipe books
• Notebooks
• Work manuals
• Technical books

✔ Advantages:

• Opens 180°
• Very resistant
• Easy to handle
• Excellent for writing or studying

📘 Minimum and maximum:

• Minimum: 10 pages
• Maximum: 400 pages

4. Hardcover

This service is available only from 50 copies onwards and through an advisor, as it requires additional manual processes.

✔ Ideal for:

• Special editions
• Commemorative books
• Gift books
• Premium children's books
• Compilations and complete works

✔ Advantages:

• Elegant appearance
• Superior durability
• Greater resistance
• Excellent presentation

📘 Recommended minimum:

• 70 to 80 pages depending on paper type
