What type of paper do you recommend for book interiors?

The choice of paper for the interior of a book influences its appearance, price, weight, readability and general feel.
In our printing press we handle four types of paper for interiors, each designed for different editorial projects:

  • White bond
  • Cultural or cream bond
  • Matte coated
  • Glossy coated

Below we explain which is the most suitable according to the type of book, its content and whether it will be printed in black and white or in color.

Black and white books usually focus on readability and reading comfort. For them we recommend:

1. Cultural or cream bond — 90 g

It is the most used paper in:

  • Novels
  • Narrative books
  • Textbooks
  • Poetry
  • Essay
  • Classic literature

✔️ Advantages:

  • Cream color that reduces visual fatigue
  • Warm and light feel
  • Excellent reading in black and white
  • Traditional editorial appearance

2. White bond — 75 g or 90 g

Ideal for:

  • Technical books
  • Manuals
  • Study guides
  • Books with tables or simple B/W illustrations

✔️ Advantages:

  • Cleaner neutral background
  • Excellent contrast with black text
  • Economical and light

If your book will have photos, illustrations, graphics or diagrams in color, coated papers are recommended.

1. Matte coated — 130 g or 150 g

Ideal for:

  • Illustrated books
  • Academic books in color
  • Professional manuals
  • Recipe books
  • Projects with soft images or pastel tones

✔️ Advantages:

  • Elegant finish
  • Reduces reflections
  • Excellent image definition

2. Glossy coated — 130 g or 150 g

Perfect for:

  • Color children's books
  • Magazine-style books
  • Economical photobooks
  • Material with vibrant photographs

✔️ Advantages:

  • More intense colors
  • Greater contrast
  • Ideal for detailed images

Differences between bond paper and coated paper

Bond (white or cream)

  • Porous texture
  • Matte surface
  • Ideal for prolonged reading
  • More economical
  • Soft and natural tones
  • Perfect for B/W books

Coated (matte or glossy)

  • Smooth and treated surface
  • Better image reproduction
  • Intense and sharp colors
  • More professional in color prints
  • Recommended for color interior and visual projects

What paper do we NOT recommend for interiors?

We do not use:

  • "Book semi-matte" papers
  • Fancy papers
  • Special papers that increase the book's weight too much
  • Interior laminations (only covers are laminated)
  • Soft touch

We only handle high-quality editorial papers in HD toner.
