What is the maximum number of pages I can print in a book?
The maximum number of pages to print in a book depends on the type of binding.
Each method has a physical limit related to the thickness of the paper, the strength of the glue and the capacity of the cutting and pressing system.
Here we explain the actual maximums that we handle in our print shop.
🟪 Maximum number of pages according to binding type
🟩 1. Hot-Melt Binding - 500 pages maximum
Hot-melt binding (thermal gluing) is the most commonly used for:
- Novels
- Technical books
- Thesis
- Textbooks
- Manuals
In our print shop, the recommended limit is:
✔️ Maximum 500 pages
This limit ensures:
- Good opening of the book
- Correct adhesion of the glue
- That the spine does not fracture
- That the book does not warp or open on its own
📌 Thicker books may not close properly or may present gluing faults.
🟩 2. Stapled Binding - 48 pages maximum
Ideal for:
- Magazines
- Guides
- Fascicles
- Lightweight material
Its natural restrictions:
- Must be a multiple of 4
- It should not be too thick to punch and bend.
Therefore, the maximum is:
✔️ Maximum 48 pages
(Multiples of 4: 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48)
📌 Over 48 pages it starts to “open” and does not fold well.
🟩 3. Wire-O Binding - 400 pages maximum
Used for:
- Manuals
- Agendas
- Workbooks
- Technical books
- Notebooks
The limit depends on the caliber of the spiral, but the correct maximum to maintain good handling is:
✔️ Maximum 400 pages
With more pages, the spiral would be too large and the book would be difficult to handle.
🟪 What happens if my book exceeds these limits?
If your book exceeds the maximum number of pages allowed, you have two options:
🟩 1. Divide the content into volumes
Examples:
- Volume 1 and Volume 2
- Part A / Part B
- Volume 1 / Volume 2
This is the most professionally and editorially appropriate solution.
✔️ More manageable books
✔️ Better reading experience
✔️ Increased durability
🟩 2. Change binding
Example:
- If your book is 300 pages long and you were planning to staple → use hot-melt.
- If your book is 450 pages long and you were planning to hot-melt → use wire-o (if applicable project).
🟪 H2: Quick recommendation according to your project

- Stapling: 48 pages (multiples of 4)
- Wire-O: 400 pages
If your project exceeds these limits, we can help you choose another binding or split your book into volumes.
This way we guarantee stability, aesthetics and durability in each print.
